it was going to happen at some point

Sunday I ran in the Cap 10k. I was excited about running it because I've heard about it since I've lived here in Austin, which is going on 10 years now. Well, everything started off great! That is, until about mile 1. I got the most intense, sharp cramp on my side. It was so bad I had to stop to walk. I wasn't sure how to fix it, so I started squeezing it, poking it, rubbing it until it went away. It finally went away and I started running again. Of course, it came right back. I didn't stop to walk right away thinking maybe if I breathed differently it would help. It didn't really. So basically the rest of my race was me running for a few minutes, and then stopping to walk until the cramp went away, and then I would run again. I finished with a pace of 11:48 which is way off my normal pace. My current pace has been anywhere between 10:30-11:00 minutes. I was so mad I sprinted the last half mile to try to make up for lost time.

This was my 13th race, and the first 12 have all been great! I guess it was time for me to have a bad race. Not only was I having cramping issues, it was also ridiculously hot. It was a pretty miserable morning. But like Katie said, I didn't throw up or give up. I can be proud of that. Now the training continues for the 10/20 race coming up, and then the Run to the Sun 2 weeks after that. Hopefully I will be back on my game for them.

jean diapers

As a stocking stuffer this past Christmas I bought jean diapers for Miles. Obviously when Miles came around I knew IMMEDIATELY that he would be wearing jean diapers at one point in his life because of me. Well, that time finally came! Look at the most amazing pictures you will ever see of a kid in jean diapers.

Just like the ad says: "Helps your baby stay trendy wile staying dry." Miles is totally trendy and he loves it! Don't worry Rebecca, more are on the way!

st. patrick's day

Spring Break ended with St. Patrick's Day on Saturday. Some friends and I decided to go to a bar downtown on west 6th called The Ranch. After eating lunch I met Katie at her place and we headed downtown with her boyfriend Derrick. When we got there it wasn't very crowded so we were able to get an awesome table on the end of the porch which overlooks the street. (The main bar is upstairs on a porch.) The beer was cheap, green, and cold. Perfect way to start the afternoon!

Like usual, other people wanted to wear my AWESOME sunglasses. Sorry Rebecca, you're the only one that hates them.

As the night wore on things got nutty. As we were leaving the bar to stay at Chris' friends place (he lived downtown, and obviously we couldn't drive anywhere) we came across a motorcycle totally wrapped in bubble wrap! I'll let that sink in for a minute.

Clearly the first thing I said was, "We have to take pictures on it!" Chris couldn't say no, so the pictures began.

All in all it was a super fun day/night with friends, and a great way to say goodbye to Spring Break! I sometimes wish we didn't have a Spring Break only because it then just makes me crave summer and hate that I have to go back to school. But then again, I don't think we would survive the spring semester without that week off. Now, just 48 more days left in school. I can make it.

sxsw

SXSW is always going on during my Spring Break. It's really fun, but you sometimes have to wait in line forever and may or may not get into the movie or show you're waiting for. That part I hate about it, so I avoided most of it this year. I went for a run on Friday and experienced SXSW in my own little way. I first saw Brad Womack from The Bachelor. Not too exciting because he lives here, but still, a semi-celebrity sighting. I then hopped off of the trail and ran downtown some. At one of the stoplights a homeless man serenaded me. It was lovely. When I jumped back on the trail to finish my run I saw Howard Stern! It was funny watching him run because he's so tall and lanky. My guy friends are super jealous that I saw him.

That night I went to Auditorium Shores with some friends for their free show. The headliner that night was Counting Crows! I love their old stuff, even though one of their songs was a source of name calling for me. One of their big hits was Mr. Jones, and Rebecca loved calling me Mr. Jones because of my ridiculous short hair. (Picture a boy, then put my face over theirs and you have a pretty good idea of what I looked like back then.) They put on a great show! I was jumping up and down when Mr. Jones came on. It was a great night!

I heart Austin!

See you next year SXSW!

best. game. ever.

Over Spring Break I went to Salt Lick with some friends. Afterwards we went back to Katie's apartment and had some drinks and played some games. Oh man, I learned the best game ever!! It will probably sound confusing with me explaining it, but I'll try. It also is a game for several people. We had 5 and that seemed like a good number.

Since there were 5 players each person got 5 pieces of paper. On the first piece you write anything, a saying, a famous person's name, movie title, anything. You then pass the entire stack to your left. That person reads the words and puts the words at the back of the stack and draws it as best as they can, like Pictionary. Then it's passed again and that person looks at the picture and puts it at the back and writes what they think they drew. This continues until everyone has had a chance either writing words or drawing a picture for each stack. I told you, it sounds confusing, but it is so fun! Since I was playing with some of my Bachelor peeps I thought I would share one that was done. Excuse the x's on the words/pictures. We used the back for another round so we put x's on the side we already did.

Sheri's words

Larry's picture. For those that didn't watch this season, one girl showed up the first night on a horse instead of in a limo. That's where the problem began.

What Katie thought he had drawn.

My picture of her words.

What Sarah though I had drawn. It still makes me laugh that's what she thought.

Unfortunately this isn't the funniest one of the night. I say unfortunately only because I can't show it on here because my parents and my aunt reads my blog. I don't think they would appreciate it quite like I did. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard. All I will say is it started with "Girl on Top" and ended in "The Crying Game." If you haven't played this game before, you should start ASAP.

apartment updates

I had to resign my lease and in doing so I was able to get several upgrades. I got new wide wooden blinds throughout, I will be getting new laminate that looks like hardwood floors, and my carpets cleaned. The biggest update? New cabinets! Well, not really new. They took the old doors off, painted everything white, and put new doors on.
Before

I had to take everything out before they could come in, annoying but I know why I had to do it. As I was pulling stuff out I started a Goodwill pile. I was video chatting with Rebecca and Miles while I was doing it and was trying to convince Rebecca she needed some of the stuff I was getting rid of. She did not agree. I think Miles was probably pretty sad.

All of my crap. Including my bathroom stuff since they did those cabinets as well. I had to go back to this table anytime I needed anything for 3 days. It was really annoying after about 5 minutes.

I think I have some extra tupperware if you ever need some.

Day 1: Paiting

Day 2: Done!

When I came home after day 2 this sign was on one of the doors. Excuse me, what? I decided it meant to say Please don't close the cabinet doors today. I only figured that out after my mom said I should leave the doors open an extra day so they don't stick.

Another update I did on my own was get rid of a big desk in my bedroom. I've had it since college, and I think Rebecca had it when she was in college. It's become a storage space since I use my computer usually in the living room, so I decided it was time to move on. I got some shelves at Ikea and quickly realized I needed a lamp. I also finally framed 2 prints I've had forever, and put up some of the art I got from my friend Judy Paul. I think it looks great, but seems cluttered. I'm not sure what to do about that. Ideas?

When I get the new flooring I will make sure to show you!

happy almost seder everyone!

I'm aware I'm not Jewish. However I couldn't help taking tons of pictures of the best thing I have found in a long time. When I was in Houston I went shopping with my mom and stopped at Bed Bath and Beyond. We were checking out and I found the most amazing thing. Plague puppets! I still laugh every time I see them.

I thought, who would actually buy this for it's intended purpose? As opposed to someone like me who thinks it's hilarious. Well, my friend Amira would! I saw on her Pinterest board the next day all these different plague craft puppet activity things I'm assuming was for her kids. I texted her immediately and she was quite excited. I mean, who wouldn't be?
