1 year anniversary

Well, it's officially been a year since Luna went missing. I totally figured she would show up by now. I guess I was wrong. You always hear these amazing animal stories, they rescue their owner from a fire, alert Timmy someone is stuck in a well, etc. I guess Luna isn't as cool as those animals. The best thing she could do was snag crickets in her mouth, sit next to me if she felt I was good enough, and occasionally pee on my bed, in the sink and in my papasan chair.

Oh Luna, you have been missed. Maybe it's time for me to get a new, non-peeing on furniture, cuddly cat. Maybe not. What if she comes back? I know she would totally hate having another cat to have to deal with.

In memoriam.

have you seen this cat?

People have been asking about Luna, so I thought I would give an update. Unfortunately she hasn't made her way back home. I put up lost cat flyers all around and in doors around my apartment, I've called the microchip people, vets around my complex, and continue to walk around my complex daily looking and calling for her. One of the maintenance guys that pick up trash found her collar yesterday near my apartment. It was a break-away collar so I'm hoping she's ok.

Rebecca asked if I was going to get a new cat, and I think the best thing to do is wait until I move. As long as I live here, she still knows where home is, and she might show up. But when/if I move, I guess that's the end of that. Hopefully she shows up soon though, it sure is quiet and lonely around my apartment without her. It was sad, the other day when I was grading papers I looked over ready to pet Luna (she always sits right next to me) and then I realized she wasn't there to pet. I'll let you know if there are any other developments!

the face on the milk carton

Luna has been missing since Thursday. I'm not quite sure what to do at this point. I have walked around my apartment building yelling her name, looking into bushes (I'm sure my neighbors at this point think I'm a peeping tom), and shaking her food bowl. She usually comes when I shake her food bowl., so I don't know what to do. Here are the possibilities of where Luna is:
  1. She is on a grand adventure killing birds, and enjoying being outside.
  2. She froze to death like a cat popsicle since it has been freezing here the past few nights.
  3. She was killed and/or eaten by one of the animals living in the Greenbelt which is behind my complex
  4. She is over me, and found a new home to live in.
Either way, I'm sad, lonely, and worried about her. I would ask everyone who reads to be on the lookout, but the only people that read this don't live in Austin. When I got back from my long run this morning I thought I saw her in the bushes and I got so excited and sat down and said, "Luna! Come here!" The cat walked over, and it was a fat, ugly cat. I turned my nose up at it and walked away. It was a really mean trick. In case you forgot what my lovely Luna looks like, here she is.

I guess my afternoon will now consist of making and hanging fliers around my complex. Come home Luna!

the first kill

I think Luna is ready to become an outside cat. She likes looking at the birds outside, so I got a bird feeder for her so she could look at them more often. Yes, I do get that that is a mean tease. But she'll get over it. So about 20 minutes ago I let her out on the porch after her continual meowing. While she was out there this GIGANTIC cricket jumped in front of her, and she became a predator for the first time...and she actually got it! I was proud and grossed out there was a cricket in her mouth. Unfortunately you can't see it very well, but that's one of it's legs and abdomen sticking out. (In this picture she looks just as surprised as I was that she caught it.)
Luckily I had shut the door behind her since it was hot, and poor thing, all she wanted to do was bring it in and show me. She couldn't meow like normal because then the cricket would be gone. I felt so mean standing there looking at her while she looked up at me wanting to get in. But no way man, if that thing wasn't dead it would be hopping around here when she dropped it. OR I would be finding cricket parts all over the apartment over the next few days. No thanks. Finally she started meowing so I knew the cricket was out of her mouth. Either she ate it or let it go, who knows. But this sad leg was all that I saw leftover by the door. RIP cricket, RIP.

luna-tic update

I had an appointment for Luna today at 9:15. Unfortunately, she started throwing up woke me up at 4 am. Sad for Luna, and for me. When we got to the vet Luna was already pissed about being in her crate and having to smell all these dogs and cats coming around. Every time she heard or saw a dog she started hissing, meowing, and growling at them. Finally at 10 we went to a room and a doctor saw us. She then took Luna for a urinalysis and figured out her bladder and lower intestines are inflamed. So she got a shot for the inflammation and another shot of antibiotic to help avoid getting a UTI. I also have to put her on this new diet so she won't get more inflammation and UTI's. Apparently once you get one, you're prone to getting them.

The only good thing that came out of this (other than the fact that she will stop peeing in my bed and in my bathroom sink....hopefully, and that she will be feeling better) is that I learned something new about Norman Rockwell. He was a lover of Michael Jackson. Please note Michael in the top left corner looking down lovingly at the child holding a dog.

luna-tic

I am LIVID! So in one of my last posts I wrote about how Luna peed in my bed while I was laying next to her. Well later that night, she peed on my bed again. Luckily I had an egg crate on it so it didn't get on my matress. Needless to say, I had to take my comforter in, wash my sheets, throw out and get a new egg crate. I hadn't seen her pee anywhere else, so I assumed everything was fine.

Until roughly 3 minutes ago. I should have known it was coming. When I was in the bathroom earlier getting ready, she squatted in the sink and was surely going to pee had I not turned the water on to get her out of the bathroom. So 4 minutes ago I cleaned out her litterbox and the second I walked back into my room after cleaning it and throwing it away, she's squatting on my bed. AGAIN! (And no Meghan, she did not look like she was straining.) UGH! Now I'm wondering if she's just been peeing all over my apartment and I can't smell it. Whoever has a good nose, I'll pay you to come and smell around my apartment. I'll also be calling to vet today to see if they can take out her bladder or something. Awesome start to a day.

dallas

So I was in Dallas this past weekend for Nat's wedding. When Kelly, Emily, and I got to the church we needed to go to the bathroom. Em was determined when we didn't see anything right off, so she just walked around and started opening all the doors she could find. She finally found a bathroom, but I think it's where the guys got ready or something. The entire time we were in there the guys kept poking their head in looking for who knows who, but kept finding us. Before we left Kelly needed to put on her makeup and found a spot to stick her makeup bag. I started laughing when I realized she put it on an open Bible. Her response? "Just another great use for the word of God." Oh Kelly.

On Sunday I met Heather and her daughter, Claire, who is in 4th grade at The Galleria. We went ice skating and then to dinner. Claire was cracking us up at dinner, and even asked if she could get a picture with our waiter Tim. She chickened out though right as we were going to ask if we could take a picture of them.

Also my spring break food testing started at dinner with Heather and Claire. Sunday night: french fries! It was a delicious experience!! They were my first fries in over a year, and I couldn't eat them fast enough. Claire even said I could have her fries after seeing how excited I was to be eating fries. I did feel kinda weird after eating them, so I'm going to try potatoes again this week to make sure. Hopefully it was just because they were fried. I would LOVE it if I could eat potatoes again!

When I got home, I think Luna wanted to show me that I shouldn't leave her again, because she peed on my comforter. AS I WAS LAYING IN BED! Ugh. We are currently in a fight, but I don't think she knows that we're in a fight.
