i'm a good teacher, i swear

I started reading centers this week, and in one of the centers they have a book they read together. Before they start reading I have them explore the book, and ask questions they may have. These questions are usually something like, "Who is the main character? Where does the story take place?" Well...I got 2 questions that made me laugh out loud, and then wonder if I needed to throw their sheet away or send it home and hope their parents don't question the book choice. Before you see their questions, let me say they are reading different books, and they are both great kid books.

Question 5

 Question 4

I'm just helping my students to become more well rounded and learn about life.

the power of iphones

I have had a cell phone since I was 16. In those 11 years I never have dropped my phone in water or the toilet. Well, my 11 year streak just ended. Last week I dropped my phone in the toilet! The second it fell in I pulled it out, and that's when the ridiculousness started. Since I have never dropped my phone in water I didn't really know what the best next step was. So obviously I turned off my phone and then shook it really hard to get the water out. That would totally work right? I then put it in a cup of rice to try to get more moisture out.

Well....I got bored and about 2 hours later I took it out and turned it back on. It worked! However, I noticed certain sounds weren't working. Hmm...instead of turning it off and putting it back in rice like I should have, I started texting Wes asking him what to do. I also googled it and it said to plug and unplug headphones while music is playing and that might fix the problem. I tried that, but unfortunately there was rice still in the headphone outlet thing and I totally smashed rice into it. Oops. My next brilliant idea was to get a toothpick and start picking the rice out. It kinda worked. But no sound. I decided to leave it alone and hope for the best.

Most of the sounds are working now, but I for sure shorted something out. Do I live with it randomly working and then not working, or splurge and get the new iPhone? Decisions, decisions. Also, how in the hell is my phone still working? I bet the ghost of Steve Jobs is looking over my shoulder protecting my phone. I'm sure he doesn't have anything better to do wherever he is and is watching out for my phone.

bruises

I bruise like a peach. For real though. Emily decided to test it out one day and punch me in the leg, and yup, there was a bruise from it. As I was stumbling online, I found a tip about bruises. It said to apply a cotton ball dipped in white vinegar to a fresh bruise and it will go away faster, and not get as dark. I got a HUGE bruise right below my knee days before a wedding I was in, so I decided to try this trick. Here are the results.

Day 1a

Day 1b: Applying cotton ball

Day 2...better? Not quite sure

Day 3: No way is it better

Day 4a: Nope.

Day 4b: I applied some makeup on it in hopes it wouldn't be as obvious with my bridesmaid dress. I think it just made my leg look really strange with those different colors.

My results are not good. However, maybe my bruise had been there too long and not fresh enough for it to work. Or maybe I didn't apply the vinegar cotton ball long enough? I will try it again and document the results.

time: 8:40 am; location: riverside

You can probably guess with the title of this entry that something happened, once again. Well, you'd be right. I was running with my running group yesterday morning, and we were almost done with our 4 mile run. (The farthest I've run to date.) The end of our run has us running down Riverside on the sidewalk towards Congress. Literally 2 minutes away from where we started it happened. There was a manhole cover slightly up and I didn't see it and I tripped!

I was literally inches away from smashing my face on the concrete when I somehow forward rolled onto my right shoulder into the grass! I don't understand. How am I doing these forward rolls instead of smashing my face? Don't get me wrong, I am glad I'm doing it, I just don't understand how it happens. I'm not thinking, wow, I'm about to loose my teeth, maybe I should roll out of this fall? Whatever, I'm not going to question it. I didn't come out unscathed however, and thank god no one tripped over me and fell. I, of course, fell on my other knee and scratched the crap out of my palms and right elbow.

You know how famous people die in threes? I'm now assuming I will fall in threes. (Crissy, is this true? I know you fall a lot.) I'll let you know when it happens again. I'm sure it will be within the week since that's what happened this time.

time: 6:10 pm, location: casis

Let me begin by letting you know what I am wearing today. I'm wearing a super cute plaid dress and brown wedges. So, Nichole and I stayed late to plan for next week, and while we were planning we realized we forgot to make copies of a few things we need for tomorrow. So we walked over to the fourth grade hall to make said copies. The quickest way to get there is to walk outside the building from our hallway to the other hallway. On our way back we were having a lovely discussion, both of us holding a stack of papers, as well as 10 paper clipped stacks of small pieces of paper for a game we're playing.

Next thing I know my hands are flying in the air, my papers go flying! I fall on my knees and do a forward roll to my back. As I am doing my forward roll I distinctly remember thinking, "wow, my dress is over my head right now." After my forward roll I am laying on the ground outside with my dress up to my waist, panties on display. I start laughing hysterically. Nichole looks down at me laughing hysterically. I look over and my papers are EVERYWHERE! I finally get enough sense to pull my dress down and sit up. My knee at this point it super bloody, my hip hurts, my elbow is bleeding, my wrist hurts, and we are still laughing. Nichole finally asks between laughs how she can help me. I say I have no idea.

Finally I get up and she helps me get all my papers. As we finish the walk to the room I ask what happened, and how ridiculous I looked. Her response, "I have no idea what happened! We were talking and I was looking at you, and the next thing I know you're on your back laughing." Hopefully we picked up all of the game pieces so we can still play the game tomorrow.

I seriously don't remember the last time I actually fell. Can you get workers comp for this?

michael scott and dating

A few days ago I was getting ready and doing my hair. I went to the kitchen to get some water, and when I walked back into my room I was just about to sit down to straighten my hair when I stepped ON my turned on straightener! I immediately screamed and ran to stick my foot under the faucet. I was going to post a picture of the gross blister on my toe, but I figured since the last picture I posted was of a dead cricket, I should avoid another gross picture so soon. (You're welcome Rebecca.) Of course I told Rebecca about what happened. Her response, "Who are you? Michael Scott?" Apparently I am as big of a dummy as he is.

I also joined match.com last week. Within the first few days I had 2 emails from guys asking me for my number because "they would love to see me tonight." No thanks. I also started talking to one guy who asked for a "full body pic." Excuse me, I am not in middle school anymore. I've gone on two dates so far, and both (to my surprise) actually went well! I'm sure there will be more stories to tell, so check back for that!
