where babies come from

In case you didn't know, and for my friends who will be teaching their little ones where babies come from, here's what you should tell them:

Kid 1: Look, the fairy is this book has the same name as me!
Me: Maybe the book is all about you! Are you a fairy?
Kid 2: I was a fairy once! That's how babies are made. You're a fairy on the ground, and the you evaporate into the clouds. And then you evaporate into your mommy's belly.

In case you didn't know, now you know. You're welcome.

that's a dis

At recess I was talking to some of my old students when a current student came up to me and started pushing her bracelets on my arm.

Kid: You have a lot of meat on your body.
Me: I don't think that was a compliment. Is that a dis? Did you just call me fat?
Old Student: (cracking up) I think she just called you fat. You got dissed!

headaches and knights

This is how my day started:
Kid: Man we're crazy today. I bet we give you a lot of headaches.

And this is how it ended when I ran into one of my kids from last year:
Me: You look sad. Why are you sad?
Kid: I miss you.
Me: I miss you too!
Kid: Can I come back to your class? I want to come back to your class.
Me: You can ask your teacher if you get to the top of your ladder maybe you can come to my room for a break.
Kid: OK. (his TA walked out and they had to leave) I love you my princess!
Me: I love you my knight!

Best way to end my crazy day.

kid quotes are back!

It's been a month. And yes, I'm aware. I apologize because I'm sure you've been checking back every day hoping to see a new post. Well summer is gone and a new school year started. Boo.

I was worried I wouldn't have a kid as quote worthy as the one I had last year, but don't worry! There is definitely a new kid in town ready to claim his title. As we were walking to lunch today this happened:

Me: Why do you always want to be last in line?
Kid: Because I'm special.
Me: What about me? I'm pretty special so I should be last.
Kid: Well we're both pretty special so we can both be last.
Me: So what makes you special?
Kid: Well, I'm a grown up kid.
Me: What does that mean?
Kid: It means I'm a kid that has kids.
Me: Wait, you mean like children?
Kid: Yeah.
Me: How many kids do you have?
Kid: I have 100 children. They all live in my army fort in my backyard.

fredericksburg

Things have been hard this summer, and my girls trip to Fredericksburg came at just the right time. I met Angie and Patricia there who were getting their massages while I opened up some wine and waited for them. The hotel we stayed at had a Girls Getaway package where we each got a bottle of wine and wine glass, bath goodies, and a massage! Best. Getaway. Ever.

When they got back we walked downtown (a block away from our hotel) and walked around until we found a good place to eat. Something that sucks about small towns? Everything closes at 8 or 9. We found this super awesome place called Bejas Grill and after eating walked to a bar that had promise and was actually open until 2. Well...it was a craphole and didn't look like they were going to have karaoke with the 3 other people there, so we left. To give you an idea of this place, when we walked in I totally expected a record to stop while everyone looked at us.

at dinner
The next day I woke up and left to get my massage. It was heaven! Again, just what I needed. We then did some shopping downtown and ate at a delicious German restaurant called the Auslander. As we were about to leave for the wineries it started pouring, so we ran to a bar/wine store next door where they were doing tastings. This guy who looked like Gerard Butler was serving wine from his winery, and we ended up getting a glass and hanging out until the rain stopped. When it finally stopped I decided I would buy a bottle of this super delicious wine. Now I am normally a $10 bottle girl, and didn't check the price before buying. To my surprise it was $30! Even if I wanted to change my mind I couldn't because he signed the bottle for me! Oops. I guess I just need to find a special occasion to drink it!
We finally left for the wineries and decided to stop at any of them that looked cool. We hit up 4 different wineries and tried a lot of delicious wine!
First stop, Rancho Ponte
 Mandelbaum
Grape Creek, home of the delicious hot tub wine
Four Point
Favorite stop and best way to end the day!
After a perfect day we ate dinner at a different German place we hoped would be haunted. Sadly, it wasn't, but the food was still delicious even without the ghosts. Afterwards we stopped by the candy store, naturally, and finished the night with some wine by the pool.
Sadly we had to leave the next morning after breakfast, but the quick girls trip was perfect! Who doesn't like to get away with 2 of their best friends and go on an adventure and drink wine? We've already started planning for our trip next summer to some super haunted hotel in Louisiana! I'll have to start getting my ghost hunting gear together!

goat cheese and possible intestinal explosions

This is how I chose to spend my Sunday Funday:
It's been 3 days (almost) and I feel totally fine! Welcome back goat cheese! Glad to see you don't hate me like your cow cousins.

be phenomenal, or be forgotten

I have been struggling with what to say for the past 2 weeks. I am still struggling, so I will use some of the words I heard a week ago to help say what I want to say. 2 weeks ago a good friend was killed in a car accident. His wife is my best friend Jillian, and as their relationship grew, my friendship with Karam grew. He became a part of our family, just like Jillian has been a part of our family since 1st grade.

I have never wanted to live in Houston more than I do now with everything going on. Karam's funeral was a week ago and it was great seeing everyone that loved and was touched by Karam all in one place. There were over 650 people there celebrating his life. The amount of people sitting and standing together was incredible.

Karam was the type of person that lived life large. When you were with him, he was there with you 100%. He looked for ways to have fun in any situation, and knew how to lift you up when you were down. He loved to dance, with or without you. He was a great friend, and I miss him deeply.

One of his friends that spoke at the memorial service quoted from a Pearl Jam song called Just Breathe:
Yes, I understand that every life must end,
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go,
Oh I'm a lucky man, to count on both hands the ones I love
Some folks just have one, yeah, others, they've got none

Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...

Nothing you would take
Everything you gave
Hold me til I die
Meet you on the other side...

Karam had more love than he could have ever counted.

Tell those that you love, that you love them every chance you get. Don't take life for granted, because life is more fragile than you can imagine. Always laugh. Be with your friends, your family, your loved ones 100%. Live life large like Karam always did.

Karam was phenomenal, and he will never be forgotten.
